Today I finally managed
to come to a brief 1 hour speech held at Wireless@KTH. Actually I got my
headache problem again since last night and not be able to come little bit
early in the morning to office and doing my research. So when I arrived at
that noon, I almost wanted to cancel my plan. But since the venue was at
Wireless@KTH lab, Electrum building, means it is not so far away, I decided to
hurry and attend the seminar.
It was actually a speech by Associate Professor from Virginia Tech University, Prof. Tom Martin, that came to KTH this week. As usual, when there is guess researcher from other university come at Wireless@KTH, there will always a brief speech after that, either to share the current / past projects or talked about specific things.

And today, the talk was
about Prof. Tom's course at his university, which I
think almost has the same concept with project course that we have at ICT KTH
(CSD and other project courses), range for entire semester where bunch of
students from different fields are gathered in specific team, and challenged to
solve specific problem. So basically, it is cross-disciplinary
course. Though, the purpose of the course is slightly different, which
this one focuses on proposing smart functions for everyday live
objects/problems, while the one that I experienced at CSD course was more on
solving unique problems (see CSD website or my project video)
Well, I think I will not
talk more about that now (I will add detail about this later), since
there is one thing I need to keep remember for my entire life, so much so that
makes me really need to write and share it before I forget. Prof. Tom actually
introduced and inspired me with good term of working and dealing with diverse
fields and people. This is his recipe:
"If you want to success, behave like the 'T' guy: focus at specific thing (like the vertical line of the T character), and smart to cooperate for other
things (like the horizontal 'hand' line of it)".
That's it..not such new thing
and concept actually, but enough to make it easy to remember.
Ps: I
will add more detail about this venue later
Mbak, it is like coincidence :)
ReplyDeletewhether Prof. Thom is one of my professor's friend or not but the "T" concept is also my class' target this semester. T: specific to our topics and wide to other knowledge..
